작가노트

 나의 작업은 기억의 흔적을 더듬는 작업이다. 기억이란 과거 사건에 대하여 재구성이라는 편집 과정을 거치며 현실에 대한 원인의 귀착을 수반한다. 그렇기에 기억은 과거 사건에 대한 완벽한 재생을 제공하지 않고 주관적인 서사로 탄생한다. 이러한 점에 주목하여 나는 개인의 서사를 바탕으로 남겨져 있는 혹은 남기고 있는 흔적들을 살피는 작업을 하고 있다.

 나에게 기억은 쉽게 떨어져 나와 개별적인 사물이 되기에 이것은 마치 주관적인 이야기가 담긴 텅 빈 목소리가 시공간을 유영하는 모습으로 그려진다. 이 이미지는 리듬감 있게 변형된 나의 초상이기도 하다. 나는 나눠지고 꿰매어지는 과정을 통해서 조각된 내면의 극장을 만들어낸다. 이러한 과정은 아낌없는 노동의 과정 위로 모래가 쌓이는 것과 같기에 단조롭지 않는 노동의 반복으로 만들어진다. 

 이것은 마치 불투명한 살덩어리 같기도 하고 한시적이고, 경험적이고, 산발적이고, 미약하고, 잡다하고, 일시적이게 보인다. 나는 이러한 것들을 모두 삼켜 내 몸으로 만들어 낸다. 결국 나에 들어오는 모든 것들은 허술한 은유가 되어서 시각 언어로 재편집된다.

My work involves exploring traces of memories. Memories undergo a process of reconstruction, which involves editing and entails the formation of causal connections to reality. As a result, memories do not provide a perfect reproduction of past events but rather give birth to subjective narratives. Taking note of this aspect, I engage in the examination of remnants that have been left behind or are being left behind based on personal narratives.

To me, memories easily detach themselves and become individual objects, akin to empty voices containing subjective stories that wander through space and time. This image also represents a rhythmically distorted portrait of myself. I create a theater of fragmented inner selves through processes of division and stitching. This process is akin to the accumulation of sand atop an unremitting labor, resulting in repetitive labor that is not monotonous.

It resembles an opaque mass, ephemeral, experiential, sporadic, subtle, miscellaneous, and temporary. I ingest all of these elements and transform them into my own body. Ultimately, everything that enters me becomes a flimsy metaphor, reconfigured into visual language.
